Some of this video footage takes place in one of my visual journaling workshops in which I teach a variety of mark-making and printmaking techniques to add textural layers and depth to a page. Sometimes we work directly in the journals to create a “nest” for collaging images, drawings, and writing. On the first day of class, however, we start with rolls of paper and team up to PLAY with color and texture in a way that quickly gets participants over their fear of the blank page. These pieces can then be cut or torn and added to journal pages as needed. As you’ll see in the video, the students are fully engaged in this activity!
