The Elements of Art are the focus of our Grade 1 Visual Arts unit at Pōmaikaʻi School. For our lesson on Texture we studied Mexican Metal Tooling, and let me tell you it’s a big hit with the kids! It’s truly magical to transform a smooth piece of shiny metal (36 gauge 5″x 5″ aluminum sheet) into a colorful, embossed bas relief treasure with nothing more than a wooden clay tool and permanent markers. And the results are spectacular! Here are some more student samples for you to enjoy.
And because Pōmaikaʻi is an arts integrated school, teachers often participate alongside their students in the various artforms presented by arts specialists like myself. Here are some samples of their work as well.
